Footlights Dance Studio first opened in 1996, founded by Amy Parsons. Amy spent more than 20 years building the studio before turning over the reins in 2017 to two of her tenured instructors (and sisters!), Teresa Novak and Christina Hedding. Teresa and Christina have been instructors at Footlights for over 18 years collectively and have more than 41 years teaching experience combined. Their love for the art of dance, the importance of investing in our children of today led them to not just “any dance studio” ownership, but “THIS dance studio”.
Footlights Dance Studio opened with the mission of providing quality dance instruction in a safe, loving, Christian environment and that foundation still holds true today. Our focus is on the whole student and building our dancers from the inside, focusing not only on their dance technique but on their heart, mind and soul too!
“Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up…” ~ Thessalonians 5:11
Christina Hedding & Teresa Novak – Owners/Directors
Sisters, following a dream and passion for dance, are the co-owners and directors for Footlights Dance Studio.
Christina’s teaching resume expands over 27 years. She studied dance at both Brookhaven College and the University of Texas at Austin and has choreographed many special event performances for groups in San Antonio, Dallas and New York. Christina also serves as an adjudicator and contest administrator for American Dance/Drill Team and has worked with them for 27 years. Christina loves giving back to her community, volunteering at her children’s schools and at Triestsch Memorial United Methodist Church. Her love of dance and instilling that passion in others has led her to where she is today and she is so thankful to her husband, Matt, and their two daughters, Alyssa and Lynley, for sharing that passion and allowing her to follow a dream! Both girls are dancers at Footlights and members of Footlights Performing Arts Company.
Teresa has been dancing since the age of three, studied dance at The University of Texas at Austin, was a member of the University of Texas Dance Team (hook ‘em!), has performed in many industrials and was an original member of Texas Tap Ensemble. Teresa has been teaching tap, ballet and jazz for over 16 years. Teresa served as Co-Director and Choreographer for Metrocrest Community Theater for many years; producing the musicals Oklahoma!, Fiddler on the Roof and The Passion. She has an extensive background in youth ministry with St Ann’s Catholic Church, where she assisted in producing The Passion Play for six years and serving the youth in her community. An avid volunteer, Teresa received the Mary Henry Humanitarian Award for her contributions in the Dallas community in 2012. Teresa’s husband, Jim, and her son, Holden, are her biggest fans (and vice versa!) and she is forever grateful for their support and allowing her to pursue her passions and heart! She can’t forget to mention her four legged baby, Izzy, who is very bossy…it’s a good thing she’s cute!
