Homemade Pop-Tarts that are fun to make for Valentine’s Day with your kids! Substitute any flavor of jam based on your family’s tastes. We loved the strawberry, but want to try orange too. Thanks for the recipe, Disney Family Fun! |
| Valentine Heart Tarts |
| Prepared Pie crust |
Frosting and Decorations |
| Jar of Strawberry Jam | 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted |
| 1 egg whisked with 1 tsp of water |
1 Tablespoon of water |
| 2 Tablespoons light corn syrup | |
| Red food coloring | |
| Colored Sugar or nonpereils |
|
Instructions 2. On a floured surface, roll out the piecrust to a 1/8-inch thickness. Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter (ours measures 4 inches wide) to make pairs of hearts, gathering the scraps and rerolling the dough as necessary. 3. For each tart, spread 2 teaspoons of strawberry jam on a heart, leaving a ½-inch margin on all sides. Brush the egg mixture around the edge before placing a second heart on top. Use the tines of a fork to seal the edges, then brush the tops with the egg mixture 5. Whisk the first four frosting ingredients in a medium bowl, adding more water a teaspoon at a time if needed to make a smooth, creamy frosting. Add a few drops of food coloring and mix until well blended. Spoon the frosting into a ziplock bag, snip off a corner, and squeeze it onto the tarts. Top them with nonpareils or colored sugar. |

New Walmart Neighborhood Market Opens in Flower Mound

We have a new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Flower Mound and it’s open 24 hours a day. It opened last week and is located in the old Albertson’s location at the corner of 2499 and Flower Mound Road. Having never been into one of the smaller, scaled down versions of Walmart, I decided to stop in last week to have a look around.
Walmart Neighborhood Markets offer a quick and convenient shopping trip for us busy moms who need groceries, prescriptions/over-the-counter drugs, and general odds and ends. Since it’s open 24 hours a day, you can pop in anytime you need a speedy trip.
Walmart first began opening these smaller scale markets in 1998. There are now about 167 Walmart Neighborhood Markets, each employing about 95 associates. A typical store is about 42,000 square feet.
Note: there is not an actual delicatessen with fresh cut deli meats and salads, nor is there there a bakery on site, but you can get the following items, quickly and easily:

The produce seemed to be fresh and prices around the store were similar to the Highland Village Super Walmart. The employees were friendly, without being in your space every few feet (like another local store that I frequent). The store was very clean and orderly, keeping in mind this was Grand Opening Week when I visited, it will be interesting to see if it stays this way.
The selection of non-grocery items was larger than most typical “grocery stores”. I noticed that the hardware/housewares, shampoo/soap/make-up aisles showed much more variety and selection, with non-typical additions as well (ie. bath towels, rugs, accessories).
Another useful perk…if you use the site-to-store feature on Walmart.com, you can use this location as your pick-up store. Save the trip to Highland Village for those of us that live on this side of Flower Mound.
Stop by and check it out!
