The 54-foot tree will be lit and Santa’s arrival in a fire engine marks the beginning of the Holiday Season during the annual Our Village Glows at the Shops at Highland Village.  School choirs, cookie decorating, and face painting highlight the annual event on Tuesday, November 29th from 6:30 pm until 8 pm. The activities are free and open to everyone.
Our Village Glows - Highland Village Shops  Presented by Highland Village Women’s Club and The City of Highland Village, Our Village Glows has become a holiday tradition for the families of Highland Village and surrounding areas.

“In addition to choirs singing Christmas carols and holiday songs, this year children can decorate cookies and have a special visit with Santa to tell him their holiday wishes,” says Kelly Smith, Consumer Marketing Manager for the center. “We appreciate the Highland Village Women’s Club and the City of Highland Village hosting this joyous celebration. The shopping center and our retailers will be decked-out for the holidays and ready for a great family event.”

Proceeds from the event will go to the Highland Village Women’s Club.

Mealtime Monday – Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup

Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup

I know this is a re-post recipe, but we thought you would love it as much as we do!  Now that we’ve had a few tastes of cooler weather, this soup is always the first thing I crave.  We love this crock pot recipe because it is super easy. Best yet, the kids will even eat it (albeit with mounds of cheese piled on top) which is great because it’s nutritious too! It’s not spicy when it’s made following this recipe, but if you want to add a little kick, just add salsa and sliced jalapeños on top.

Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup
1 1/2 pounds skinned and boned chicken 1 teaspoon of salt
breast halves, cut into 1 inch pieces 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
2 (4.5 oz.) cans chopped green chiles, 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
undrained 1 large onion, chopped
1 (15 oz.) can pinto beans, undrained 1 clove garlic, crushed
1 (14.5 oz) can stewed tomatoes, Toppings: shredded cheddar cheese,
undrained chopped avocado, sliced green onions
2 cups water

Place first 10 ingrediants in a 3 1/2 or 4 quart electric slow cooker. Cover and
cook on HIGH 4 to 6 hours or on LOW 8 hours. Serve soup with desired toppings.
Makes 10 cups.

When you meet Chuck Smith, personal trainer and owner of Flower Mound’s Focal Point Personal Training Studio, his infectious motivational spirit and passion will leave its mark on you.  Of course he has all of the required credentials of a great personal trainer, BS, NSCA-CPT, USAW Sports Performance Coach, FMS, but it’s his ability to bring out the best in his clients, even when they may not know they have it within themselves, that sets him apart.  “My client’s success in this program is my #1 priority,” says Chuck.  “If someone walks into my door that is serious and ready to train, I’ll make it happen for them.”  And that he does.  Chuck Smith, Focal Point Personal Training
Focal Point Personal Training Studio What is the difference between a gym and a personal training studio?   The studio is not a small gym with a lot of weight machines, crowded spaces, competition and social hours.  The purpose of the studio setting is to get you into shape and to show you a more efficient way of doing so.  When you come into the studio, you should be ready for a serious workout and in return you will see serious results.  In the studio, you will find medicine balls, kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, resistance bands and other exercise equipment to get you into shape.
Focal Point Personal Training uses a systematic approach to training.  Each client is put on their proven system and works through each step with a personal trainer in either a private or small group setting.  The client can work through the phases of the system at their own pace.  With the trainer, clients will work on corrective movement, resistance training, core stability, nutrition and flexibility.  With this systematic approach, Chuck says, “We will not waste our client’s time or money.  We are a results driven business and we want to see the results just as bad as our clients.” Focal Point Personal Training Flower Mound
Focal Point Personal Training Flower Mound Right about now, you might be wondering how much this will cost you.  Chuck lives by his “open door policy.”  “Anyone that walks through our door, and is ready to be serious about training, we will work out a program that will fit into their budget.  If they are ready to go, we are here to help them achieve their goals.”   Small group sessions make the training more affordable and often the members of the group motivate one another to achieve even higher fitness goals than they originally expected.

Here is what some Flower Mound residents are saying about Focal Point Personal Training:

“I’ve been working out with Chuck since 2008 and right off the bat saw great results – lost weight, toned up, and even noticed a big boost in my confidence. It was his training that made me start running and competing in races, which I felt was completely unfathomable prior to meeting Chuck. Some health issues have unfortunately set me back; however, he has stuck with me every step of the way, not giving up on me - sometimes when I myself wanted to do just that.  He is a great trainer, motivator, and all around great person whose personal training I would highly recommend to anyone!”  Beth F., Flower Mound

A year ago I found myself slightly overweight and extremely out of shape…Chuck was a perfect fit because he takes time to understand what your goals are and design a plan that will help you achieve them. He knows intuitively what your body is capable of and while the work outs are challenging, his encouragement and confidence make it attainable”  Mary M., Flower Mound

“I began working out with Chuck Smith over 2 years ago and I can truly say that his dedication to helping his clients achieve and maintain a toned and healthy body is what makes him the best trainer I have ever had.  Chuck makes workouts challenging and he sets goals that include achieving cardiovascular health, weight training for a toned body and compliance to a healthy diet.  He believes in your success and partners with you in order to focus on your individualized goals and meeting them.  Chuck Smith and Focal Point is one gift I am very glad I gave myself!  Laurie A, Flower Mound

The Nutcracker Roundup 2011

The Nutcracker - A Holiday TraditionFor as long as I can remember, the Nutcracker has always been a family tradition.  It was the first chance to wear my sparkling new Christmas dress while I was transported to a magical place with sugar plum fairies, dancing toys and snow queens.  Now that I have children of my own, I get to re-live the fairytale every year as I watch their eyes light up as the house lights go down.  I love to see their excitement the first time the Nutcracker comes to life and saves Clara from the giant mice.  Exposing your children to the Nutcracker ballet will broaden their appreciation of the arts and classical music without their even knowing it…and this is a gift for a lifetime…from you.  Our side of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex offers many different performances of the Nutcracker, so we’ve rounded some of them up for you to make your search for the perfect show, that much easier.    Happy Holidays!
