According to Tom Kirwan, of the Native Plant Society of Texas, many more wildflowers are expected to bloom on The Mound this spring. There are over 125 species of native plants that have been identified and documented in the book, The Flower Mound, Flower Mound, Texas: A History and Field Guide to the Flowers and Grasses by Alton Bowman. This book is available for purchase at the Circulation Desk of the Town of Flower Mound library. All proceeds go to the Mound Foundation and their mission to protect and preserve The Flower Mound for our residents. For additional information about native plants including those recommended for Denton County, visit the Native Plant Society of Texas web site at www.npsot.org. The Native Plant Society of Texas is a non-profit organization run by volunteers who work to promote native plant appreciation, research, and conservation through 33 chapters located around the state. Yoga for kids is a fun, creative way to develop important gross and fine motor skills. The use of animated poses and basic stretching promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and visualization techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control. Each session is taught by Mrs. Liza Doll, a former elementary school teacher, and is alive with games, magical journeys and dance. Using interactive games and animated poses, kids will learn about animals, nature, and basic anatomy. Your little yogis will improve concentration and focus, stimulate their imagination and help release energy in a fun, safe enviroment. Yoga is non-competitive and there is no judgement about how a child does a pose or plays a game. Doing a pose “perfectly” is not a goal. Yoga nurtures children’s inner-strength, confidence, and self esteem as well as love for one’s self, inside and out. Join Yogi Kids this summer for one week or all six! |
