The Mealtime Monday recipe this week isn’t actually for a meal, but we thought with the kids home from school for Thanksgiving, this recipe might just come in handy. This Pumpkin Pie Play-Doh is super easy to make and when finished smells so yummy! Just make sure you tell your kids it’s only to play with and not to eat! Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
|
| 5 1/2 cups flour |
1 container (1 1/2 oz.) Pumpkin |
| 2 cups salt |
pie spice |
| 8 teaspoons Cream of Tarter |
4 cups water |
| 3/4 cup oil or slightly less |
1 container yellow and red food |
| |
coloring |
| Combine all the ingrediants in a medium saucepan, stirring at medium heat. The mixture will begin to clump. Keep stirring. |
| Remove from heat when the mixture changes from a batter-with-lumps consistency to something that looks like brown sugar and/or peanut butter. Pour onto floured surface to cool. When cool enough to touch, start kneading. Ours was still sticky in places, but kneading with additional flour evened the texture. Keep kneading for about 10 minutes. Make sure it is entirely cooled before putting in Tupperware containers for storage. |

With the cooler days setting in, we love this recipe because it is super easy. Best yet, the kids will even eat it (albeit with mounds of cheese piled on top) which is great because it’s nutritious too! It’s not spicy when it’s made following this recipe, but if you want to add a little kick, just add salsa and sliced jalapeños on top.

We love our pets like one of the family. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we want to give you some tips to make sure your holiday feast doesn’t become a holiday hazard for your dog. Here are a few simple guidelines to keep in mind and help keep your doggie friend safe:
- Never give a dog a cooked bone, especially poultry bones. These can splinter and harm your pet’s throat or even cause internal injuries.
- Don’t serve your dog leftovers. What’s good to us may seem tasty to a dog, but beware. Many foods are difficult for dogs to digest; some are toxic and can even be fatal. The following are foods that you should NOT feed your dog: fat, grapes, tomatoes, garlic, onions, raisins and salt.
|
- Just say “NO” to desserts. Sugar and fat can lead to weight and dental problems, as well as diabetes, yes, even in animals! Chocolate can be lethal, especially in small dogs.
- We love to decorate our homes for the holidays, but make sure you don’t decorate with items that may be hazardous to your dog. Be aware that small ornaments and knick knacks can cause choking. If you plan to burn candles, make sure your dog can’t knock them over.
Your little angel provides you with unconditional love everyday. Isn’t it the least we can do to follow a few simple rules to make sure little Fluffy has a Happy Thanksgiving too?
