| Our pets are part of the family and we love to spoil them from time to time, or okay, ALL the time for some of us, right? We make sure they have the love, food and excercise they need to live happy and healthy lives. Kelly Ellis of Flower Mound feels the same way about her pets, so she began making treats for her dogs and cats over 7 years ago. What started as a hobby, turned into a passion and is now a thriving online business located right here in Flower Mound. It’s called Posh Pets Bakery & Boutique. |  |

For as long as Kelly can remember, she has always wanted to work with animals. “I have always had a heart for their well being and cherish their unconditional love,” says Kelly. As a result of this love of animals, she became involved with several animal rescue organizations and even added 4 rescues (2 dogs and 2 cats) to her own home. Eventual health concerns, special diet requirements, skin allergies, and bad breath issues lead her to a need to find healthier treats for her furry friends. She could not find commercial treats that would satisfy these needs, so she began experimenting with recipes on her own. “They reacted so differently to the natural treats verses the manufactured treats. I noticed less itching and less doggie breath. I knew it had to be all of the fresh ingredients used.” She began making her treats for “pet taste testers” of friends and relatives and the response was amazing. Posh Pets Bakery was born! |

The flavors/ingredients in the homemade pet treats come from both traditional and healthful roots. Most of us know that our dogs LOVE traditional dog favorites like peanut butter, bacon and chicken. Keeping up with the latest nutritional research and working closely with local veterinarians, Posh Pets makes their treats using these flavors in the healthiest way possible. For example, they use all natural peanut butter, and nitrate-free, lean turkey bacon, instead of regular pork bacon, to help lower the calorie and fat content. They have even come up with non-traditional recipes that include fresh herbs, bananas, apples, blueberries, flax, and sweet potatoes (that they dry themselves) to introduce healthy vitamins and minerals. They do not add additional refined sugars, salt, artificial colors or flavors. Posh Pets Bakery also offers a gluten-free line for pets that have special needs and frosted treats for special occassions. |
