Mealtime Monday: Spinach-Cheese Swirls

| Spinach-Cheese Swirls |
| 1 egg | 1/8 tsp garlic powder |
| 1 TBSP. water | All-purpose flour |
| 1/2 cup shredded muenster cheese | 1/2 of a 17.3 oz. package of Pepperidge |
| 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese | Farm Puff Pastry Sheet (1 sheet), thawed |
| 1 green onion, chopped, about 2 TBSP. | 1 package (about 10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, |
| thawed and well drained. | |
| Directions: |
|
1. Heat the oven to 400°F. Beat the egg and water in a small bowl with a fork. 2. Stir the Muenster cheese, Parmesan cheese, onion and garlic powder in a medium bowl. 3. Sprinkle the flour on the work surface. Unfold the pastry sheet on the work surface . Brush the pastry sheet with the egg mixture. Top with the cheese mixture and spinach. Starting at a short side, roll up like a jelly roll. Cut into about 20 (1/2-inch) slices. Place the slices, cut-side down, onto 2 baking sheets. Brush the slices with the egg mixture. 4. Bake for 15 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown. Remove the pastries from the baking sheets and let cool on wire racks for 10 minutes. 5. For best results, make sure to remove as much liquid as you can from the spinach before adding it to the pastry. If it’s too wet, it may make the pastry soggy. We squeezed exess water into a bowl before we spread on the pastry sheet. 6. Note: We used a 1/2 bag of spinach for each sheet of pastry (we doubled the recipe for the cheese filling so we could use both pastry sheets in the box). If you love spinach, you could go for the whole bag, but for us 1/2 bag was plenty for each sheet. |

We have been taking our two daughters to Kiddoos! Kids’ Salon in Lewisville for 7 years. We have tried other kids hair salons, but keep coming back to Kiddoos! because their hair stylists and service really outshine the rest.
The salon is located in the back of StrideRite Lewisville and is conveniently located near Vista Ridge Mall (across the street from Going Bonkers), just a few minutes from Flower Mound. The stylists understand children and are very patient, even with the most reluctant clients.
During the childrens’ haircuts they can enjoy watching a movie or playing a video game and if Mom says it’s OK, each will receive a lollipop after the haircut. They really do make hair cuts fun a Kiddoos! Some of the services they offer are:
- Kiddoos! Cut (shampoo, haircut and basic dry)
- Bang Trim
- Boy’s Edge Up
- Extras: Braid, Curls, Twists OR Straightening Hair – our girls love the twists, for just $5
- Updo’s (shampoo, dry, custom style)
- Baby’s First Haircut with Keepsake
- Men’s and Women’s haircuts
- Ear piercing
Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments are preferred and will take priority. The salons hours are as follows:

Tracy S., of Coppell has this to say about Kidoos!: “I have been taking my children to Kiddoos! Kids’ Salon for over 8 years. I started with my older boys and now my daughter loves to go there. The stylists are patient and always have a smile for the kids. In between haircuts, my daughter loves to go and have her hair washed and styled. The stylists always have great suggestions on fun ways to braid her hair and it always looks adorable. She loves that there is a kitchen set and a train set to play with while she waits for her appointment. Kiddoos Kids’ Salon is not just for the little ones. The stylists are up to date on the latest braiding styles and up-dos – including the Katniss braid and the Waterfall braid. I highly recommend Kiddoos! Kids’ Salon!” |

We all deserve time off and a fun night out with the girls, right? Well, in case you haven’t found it yet, we have a hot spot in town…but beware, it comes with a warning: Bring your friends, your bottle of wine, a little bit of food and you risk the chance that you will want to return again and again! At Painting with a Twist in Flower Mound they believe that everyone can paint. Everyone has an inner artist; it simply takes the right setting, the right paintings and talented, caring instructors to bring out the hidden Rembrandt in you! |

The goal at Painting with a Twist is to have lots and lots of fun, and in the process, create a legitimate painting that you will be proud to hang on your wall and call ‘Art’. So here’s the drill. Check the calendar on their website to see the featured paintings of the day. Choose your favorite, grab a friend, some wine and come to the studio on the specified day (reservations are advised). Owner, Denise Montgomery says, “Our instructor will guide you through each step of recreating the featured painting and you’ll have created a piece of art before you know it. Have a sip and paint a stroke and you will find your inner Rembrandt!” |
|
Although Painting with a Twist primarily caters to adults, they love kids too! They have hundreds of paintings for kids and family days that are scheduled a couple of times a month. Family Day painting classes run for 2 hours. Parents can stay and paint with their child or drop the off for painting fun while the parents have a couple of hours to themselves. The minimum age for children is 8. If you want the studio to yourself, book a private party and pick one of over 2,000 paintings that are available. Great for bachelorette parties, girls night out, church functions, even corporate team building events are a blast at Painting with a Twist! Pick the painting from their gallery or let them create one specific to your business. |
|
|
Your group will have an artist take everyone through, step by step, creating their version of the painting. See everyone’s personalities come out in their creations and see your team accomplish something they thought they couldn’t do! Bring snacks and beverages of choice or have your event catered. Call for additional information. |
