The 2009 Sales Tax Holiday begins at 12:01am on Friday, Aug. 21 and ends at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 23rd.
We are all very fond of the Sales Tax Holiday weekend that we enjoy here in Texas each year in August. Well, now it just got better. The 81st Texas Legislature recently passed House Bill 1801 which expands the list of items qualifying for tax exemption. Beginning this year, in addition to clothes, footwear and some backpacks, they have added school supplies priced less than $100 to the list. We like this! The only requirement is that they must be purchased for use by a student in elementary or secondary school. The following is the entire list of qualifying school supplies:
- Binders
- Book Bags
- Calculators
- Cellophane Tape
- Blackboard chalk
- Compasses
- Composition Books
- Crayons
- Erasers
- Folders; expandable, pocket, plastic and manila
- Glue, paste and glue sticks
- Highlighters
- Index cards
- Index card boxes
- Legal pads
- Lunch boxes
- Markers
- Notebooks
- Paper; loose leaf, copy paper, graph paper, tracing, manila, colored, poster board and construction paper
- Pencil boxes and other school supply boxes
- Pencil sharpeners
- Pencils
- Pens
- Protractors
- Rulers
- Scissors
- Writing tablets
So, there you have it. Go out, stock up on your school supplies and back to school clothes and save a little money!
